Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary player testing platform designed to foster collaboration between the community and developers in shaping future Battlefield installments. This initiative, announced on February 3, 2025, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), marks a significant step towards more direct player involvement in game development.
Direct Player Influence on Battlefield's Future
Recognizing the crucial development phase ahead, Battlefield Studios is prioritizing community feedback. Players will be integral to the process, actively testing new features and mechanics for the upcoming Battlefield title. An initial group of players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasizes the platform's potential: "This game has so much potential. To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch," he stated. "Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures that regular updates will be shared with the broader community, ensuring everyone can follow the progress. Furthermore, plans are in place to extend this collaborative approach to future Battlefield titles. The studio comprises DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion, bringing together a wealth of experience and expertise.
Testing Core Gameplay Elements in Battlefield Labs
Battlefield Labs will focus on key aspects of the unfinished game, allowing for iterative feedback incorporation. The testing will progress through several stages:
- Core Combat and Destruction: Initial testing will center on fundamental gameplay pillars.
- Weapons, Vehicles, and Gadgets: Balance and feedback on weaponry and equipment will follow.
- Maps, Modes, and Squad Play: The final stage will integrate all elements, focusing on overall game flow within various modes.
Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will also be included, providing opportunities to refine existing mechanics.
Conquest emphasizes large-scale battles for control points, utilizing a ticket-based system. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders, with sector control impacting ticket counts.
The class system will also undergo refinement based on player feedback. While confident in their progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of community input in achieving the ideal balance of form, function, and feel.
