According to an Xbox Wire article featuring narrative designer Zaire Lanier, South of Midnight launches on April 8th, 2025. The game unfolds in the fictional town of Prospero, a vibrant tapestry of Southern landscapes, encompassing flooded lowlands, murky swamps, and the imposing Appalachian Mountains.
The story follows Hazel, who, after a family disagreement and a devastating hurricane, embarks on a quest to find her missing mother. This journey unexpectedly reveals Hazel's hidden heritage and plunges her into a world teeming with creatures straight out of Southern myths and legends.
A pivotal encounter with Catfish, a colossal, talking creature, unveils Hazel's true nature as a Weaver – a being with magical abilities to perceive and manipulate the interconnected threads of fate. However, her path is fraught with peril, as she confronts Haints – corrupted beings spreading decay throughout Prospero. Hazel must master her Weaving powers to purify these creatures and restore balance to the world.
Early access is available on April 3rd, 2025, for those who purchase the Premium Edition ($49.99) on Steam or the Xbox Store. The standard edition is priced at $39.99, and Game Pass subscribers can play on launch day.

Hazel must gather Echoes – fragments of haunted memories – to heal these corrupted creatures. However, epic confrontations are unavoidable before she can ultimately restore them.
