Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued additional emergency changes to the action role-playing game in response to the community's backlash against the Dawn of the Hunt update. This update, released earlier this month, introduced the new Huntress class along with five new ascension classes: the Ritualist, Amazon, Smith of Kitava, Tactician, and Lich. It also brought over one hundred new unique items and significantly expanded crafting options. However, the community's reaction was overwhelmingly negative, leading to plummeting Steam user reviews and a rating of 'mostly negative.'
The core issue raised by players was that the update slowed down the game's pace excessively, turning what should have been an exciting expansion into a "total slog." Players reported that boss fights were unnecessarily long, skills did little damage, and overall gameplay felt unrewarding. Additionally, technical issues such as game stability were highlighted as significant concerns.
One particularly critical review on Steam encapsulated the community's sentiment, stating, "If you're a masochist who enjoys being punished for little to no reward, this game is for you." Another review pointed out the increased map size, slow movement, and forced combo gameplay as detrimental changes, contrasting with the freedom players enjoyed in Path of Exile 1.
In response, GGG has already implemented a series of changes and has now announced more updates coming with the 0.2.0e patch on April 11. The question remains whether these changes will be sufficient to address the community's concerns and restore a positive experience for players.
Path of Exile 2's initial success was marked by a surge in player numbers, but this also brought challenges that have affected the development of Path of Exile 1, which continues to have a dedicated player base.
Path of Exile 2 Update 0.2.0e Patch Notes:
Monster Speed Changes
GGG has addressed the overwhelming presence of monsters by making specific adjustments across different acts. General changes include removing interrupt events for many human monsters, such as Cultists in Freythorn and Tribal Humans in Act Three, to prevent relentless pursuit and allow players more engagement time. The Haste Aura modifier has also been removed from already fast monsters.
Act 1
Adjustments include making Werewolf and Tendril Prowlers walk after melee actions unless players move away, reducing the life and damage of Hungering Stalkers, and decreasing the number of Bloom Serpents and Venomous Crabs in specific areas. The duration of Blood Cretins' blood pools has been shortened, and monster density in Ogham Manor has been reduced.
Act 2
Boulder Ants in Titan Valley have been replaced with Risen Maraketh, and Faridun monsters have had interrupt events removed from their attacks.
Act 3
Changes to Diretusk Boar and Antlion Charger's behavior, adjustments to the Lost City's monster pack composition, and modifications to the Azak Bog area aim to improve gameplay flow. An issue with Slitherspitter's poison spray has been corrected, and a fix for inconsistent monster spawn density will be deployed in a future patch.
Boss Changes
Bosses such as Viper Napuatzi and Uxmal have seen specific adjustments to reduce difficulty and enhance clarity during fights. Xyclucian's arena has been cleared of ground foliage to improve visibility of his effects.
Player Minion Changes
Minion revive timers have been adjusted to prevent long waits when multiple minions die. Disenchanting certain gems now unbinds them, and tamed beasts can navigate through gaps accessible to players.
Other Player Balance
Rally support now applies to any melee attack, and bugs affecting skills like Glory and Blood Boils have been fixed.
Crafting Changes
New mods have been added to runes for caster weapons, and a new feature allows players to forge elemental runes at Renly's abandoned shop. Fixed locations for Artificers Orb drops have been added throughout the campaign.
Performance Improvements
Optimizations to ground foliage in various areas aim to enhance overall game performance.
0.2.0E Deployment Timeline
The 0.2.0e patch will be deployed at around 10AM NZT, with additional changes planned for after the weekend.
Charm Changes
Charm slots on belts are now granted by implicit mods, with the number of slots varying based on belt level. Several charm-related issues have been fixed, and charm mods have been enhanced to be more rewarding.
Stash Tab Affinities
New affinities for stash tabs have been added to categorize items like Socketables, Fragments, Breach, Expedition, and Ritual items. Charms can now be stored in the Flask stash tab or any tab with the Flask affinity.
Atlas Bookmarks
Players can now bookmark locations on their atlas for easy navigation, with up to 16 bookmarks available at a time.
