MindsEye has released the first of several emergency hotfixes to address the game's performance issues following a troubled launch.
Yesterday, developer Build A Rocket Boy expressed disappointment over the problems players encountered and committed to rolling out multiple patches to resolve performance, bugs, and AI behavior.
Amid the rocky launch, the developer canceled sponsored streams, and players reportedly secured refunds, even from platforms like Sony that are typically strict with their policies.
Hotfix #1 is now live on PC (5.7GB) and PS5 (2GB), with Xbox Series X/S (4GB) versions coming soon. Build A Rocket Boy shared the patch notes in a Discord update.
"We have deployed Hotfix #1 on an accelerated schedule as the initial step in a series of updates designed to address player feedback and improve the overall experience," the studio stated.
The update introduces CPU and GPU performance enhancements and memory optimizations across all platforms. It also lowers the difficulty of the CPR mini-game, adds an option to adjust or disable Depth of Field, and fixes control issues in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games.
On PC, new warnings appear for systems with Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled or with CPUs that may cause crashes.
Build A Rocket Boy confirmed this patch resolves a memory leak responsible for many player-reported crashes. "Performance optimization remains our top priority and an ongoing effort that will require additional time," the team added.
"We will continue to provide regular, transparent updates. Our team is fully dedicated to addressing your feedback as quickly as possible," Build A Rocket Boy said.
The developer aims to deliver further performance and stability improvements, a rebalanced 'hard' difficulty setting, animation fixes, and AI enhancements by the end of June.
The key question is whether Build A Rocket Boy, founded by former Rockstar North lead Leslie Benzies, can salvage MindsEye's reputation. On Steam, the game peaked at 3,302 concurrent players at launch but dropped to a 24-hour peak of just 786. As of this writing, 435 players were online, with user reviews currently rated 'mixed.'
