Dune: Awakening will launch with private server support. Discover how the developers implemented this feature and what players can expect.
Private Servers Coming to Dune: Awakening on Release Day
Rentable Private Servers from Launch

Funcom has officially confirmed rentable private servers will be available immediately upon Dune: Awakening's launch. Their June 2 Steam blog post outlined server functionality and rental options.
Following months of speculation about private server implementation—originally planned as a post-launch feature—Funcom accelerated development. During February 2025's Q&A Roundtable, Director Joel Bylos noted uncertainty about launch readiness but confirmed plans to include the feature.

Despite initial hesitation, Funcom's development progress exceeded expectations. Unique to Dune: Awakening, private servers maintain connectivity to the wider game ecosystem—allowing interactions across server boundaries through social hubs and the Deep Desert region.
Each rented private server provides access to a Hagga Basin instance while remaining connected to its World group. Players can select which World group to join when establishing their private server.
"This design preserves Dune: Awakening's core multiplayer experience," Funcom explained. "Players can still participate in large-scale multiplayer content, visit social hubs, and explore the Deep Desert with others across their World group."

Private servers will offer customizable options including PvP zones (Security Zones), taxation systems, and environmental toggles for sandstorms. Some planned features like admin controls and character transfers won't be available initially but will be addressed post-launch.
Pricing and additional configurations will vary by third-party provider—GPORTAL, Nitrado, and xREALM—who handle server rentals independently from Funcom's pricing structure.
Dune: Awakening's Innovative Server Architecture

"Our design creates neighborhoods of connected servers sharing social spaces and the Deep Desert," Funcom described. "This maintains survival game elements like persistent building while supporting massive multiplayer interactions characteristic of MMOs."
The developers emphasized their hybrid approach: "We blend survival game mechanics with MMO-scale social interaction—players will encounter hundreds of others in shared spaces for trading, conflict, and social activities."

Funcom determined early that fragmented multiplayer experiences were unacceptable: "Releasing a compromised version for private servers was never an option," they stated.
This philosophy resulted in a unique server model that, while offering fewer customization options than traditional MMO private servers, fully preserves the game's social and cooperative elements.
With private server availability from launch, players gain new ways to experience Arrakis. Dune: Awakening launches June 10, 2025 for PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions following later. For ongoing updates, check our coverage below.
