After 15 years at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has departed. His tenure spanned multiple Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Reisdorf played a pivotal role in the development of 2023's Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, including its live seasonal content and modes.
Reisdorf's journey at Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, encompassed key contributions to various Call of Duty installments. His early work on Modern Warfare 3 included memorable sequences like Soap's gurney scene in the "Blood Brothers" mission. He also significantly impacted the "boots on the ground" era, contributing to Advanced Warfare's mechanics such as boost jumps and tactical reloads. While he acknowledges some design choices, like Advanced Warfare's "Pick 13" system, weren't without their challenges, his contributions were undeniably significant.
His work extended to Call of Duty: WW2, where he helped rectify early issues with the Division system, and Call of Duty: Vanguard, where his preference for classic three-lane map designs shaped the multiplayer experience. His latest contribution involved overseeing the live seasons of Modern Warfare 3, including the creation of over 20 post-launch modes. He even added nostalgic touches to remade Modern Warfare 2 maps, such as Shepherd's skull in the Rust map.
Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a long and impactful career at Sledgehammer Games, but his statement suggests a continued presence within the gaming industry.
