Warner Bros. Games is realigning its interactive entertainment strategy to concentrate on four core franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.
According to a report by Variety, the company-wide restructuring involves leadership changes but does not include layoffs or executive departures. Instead, three prominent Warner Bros. Games leaders have been promoted as the division sharpens its focus on its most dependable brands.
Yves Lachance, head of Warner Bros. Games Montreal, has been appointed Senior Vice President of Development, overseeing games in the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones universes. Shaun Himmerick of NetherRealm Studios has also been named Senior Vice President of Development, responsible for the Mortal Kombat and DC Universe portfolios. Steven Flenory, from Warner Bros. Games New York, now serves as Senior Vice President of Central Tech & Services, managing game and publishing technology, customer service, quality assurance, and user research.
"Our company is home to some of the biggest franchises in the world, and we are optimizing our team structure to develop long-term franchise roadmaps to delight players and fans of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat and DC games.“
“Our company is home to some of the biggest franchises in the world, and we are optimizing our team structure to develop long-term franchise roadmaps to delight players and fans of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat and DC games,” said J.B. Perrette, CEO of Global Streaming & Games, in a statement. “We are fortunate to have a talented roster of development and technology professionals, and Yves, Shaun, and Steven are respected leaders with strong expertise. I look forward to collaborating with them and the team as we strive to create outstanding games for our key franchises.”
It remains to be seen how the restructuring will impact Warner Bros. Games after a difficult start to 2025. The year began on January 23 with news that then-boss David Haddad would depart following notable setbacks, including the troubled releases of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus.
Plans to shut down the latter were announced just a week later, followed by a more severe blow in February when Warner Bros. Games revealed it would close Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. San Diego, along with canceling its Wonder Woman game.
The current reorganization aligns with a strategy Warner Bros. outlined late last year. At that time, the company acknowledged its games division was “substantially underperforming its potential” and would pivot toward leveraging successful titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones. DC was also part of the updated strategy, with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav highlighting Batman as a particularly important property.
The changes at Warner Bros. Games follow other adjustments within the company, both large and small. Just weeks ago, Warner Bros. Discovery announced it would soon divide into two separate entities: Global Networks and Streaming & Studios. On the streaming front, viewers will soon see Max revert to HBO Max in the coming months.
