The studio behind Dune: Awakening is gearing up for a potentially massive player influx at launch, starting with its large-scale beta test this weekend. Here's what Funcom has planned for server capacity and what players can anticipate.
Preparing for Dune: Awakening's Launch
Funcom's Robust Server Infrastructure

With Dune: Awakening's release approaching, developer Funcom is confident in handling a surge of players at launch in June. In a recent Steam update, the team addressed key questions from the closed beta, detailing the game's server architecture and large-scale multiplayer systems.
Players begin by selecting a home server. These servers are organized into clusters called Worlds, with each World containing at least 20 individual servers. This setup allows players to meet and collaborate with others from any server within their same World.
Responding to concerns about server queues and capacity, Funcom acknowledges that launch day will bring heavy traffic, with some servers potentially reaching full capacity. However, the studio assures that "thousands of servers grouped into hundreds of Worlds will be available at launch" to distribute the load.

"While a single Hagga Basin server supports 40 concurrent players, the natural flow of populations throughout a day means it can serve as the home for several hundred characters," Funcom explained. "Our closed beta rigorously tested this, and we have systems to limit character creation on overly popular servers, minimizing the risk of them becoming completely full."
Although Dune: Awakening emphasizes large-scale multiplayer, solo play is a valid option. Players can explore Arrakis independently within the shared world. Dedicated single-player and private servers are planned for a post-launch update and will not be available at release.
What to Expect from the Large-Scale Beta Weekend

Ahead of the official launch, Funcom has shared details for the upcoming large-scale beta weekend. A post on the game's official website outlines the content players can experience during this event.
Access to the beta can be gained by wishlisting the game on Steam and requesting access, signing up on the official website, or acquiring a code from the Global LAN party on May 10.
The beta runs from May 9 to May 12. Refer to the timetable below for regional start times:

The beta features the first 20-25 hours of gameplay, covering early to mid-game content. This includes the CHOAM building set, the Hagga Basin South region, the Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap, access to the Sandbike, early combat mechanics, and parts of Act I of the story. Funcom also confirmed that all progress from the beta will be wiped and will not carry over to the full game.
Dune: Awakening launches on June 10, 2025, for PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions to follow at a later date. For the latest news and updates on the game, check out our coverage below.
