Deadlock Announces Major Update: Transition from Four Lanes to Three

Deadlock, the innovative third-person MOBA from Valve, is set to undergo a significant transformation with its latest update. This major patch, detailed in a Steam post on February 26, 2025, marks a pivotal shift in the game's map structure, moving from a four-lane configuration to a more streamlined three-lane setup.
Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

The core of this update is the redesign of Deadlock's map, transitioning from four lanes to three. This change is accompanied by a comprehensive overhaul of the map's features, including "visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." This shift aims to simplify gameplay and enhance the strategic elements of the game, which has been known for its unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre.
In addition to the map changes, the update introduces modifications to the farming mechanics. Players will no longer need to last-hit enemy troopers to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases more accessible. The patch also promises enhancements to the game's netcode and client performance, ensuring a smoother gaming experience.
Vital Update for Deadlock

This update comes at a crucial time for Deadlock, as the game looks to revitalize its player base. After reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 players in September 2024, the game experienced a significant drop, with only around 17,000 players active this past month. This update could be the key to re-engaging the community and boosting player numbers.
Valve Developer Yoshi shared insights on the update schedule in January 2025 via Deadlock's Discord server. He mentioned that the team would move away from the previous two-week cycle to allow for more substantial updates, albeit less frequently. Yoshi stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
Currently, Deadlock remains in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. While there is no official release date announced yet, the game continues to evolve with community feedback and developer dedication.
