Ubisoft has unveiled exciting new details about the gameplay mechanics of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, specifically highlighting the equipment and progression systems for the game's two playable characters: Yasuke and Naoe. A key element is a significantly enhanced Hidden Blade, a feature sure to delight longtime fans.
Each character boasts a unique skill tree reflecting their distinct combat styles. Yasuke's tree emphasizes powerful samurai techniques, while Naoe's focuses on agile shinobi skills. Players earn skill points to unlock and upgrade weapon-specific abilities and refine their fighting styles. Mastery points, earned by completing open-world objectives and defeating formidable foes like Daisyo samurai, fuel this progression.
A balanced progression system ensures neither character falls significantly behind the other. Unlocking powerful abilities often requires specific actions, such as tracking down a mysterious shinobi group. Other upgrades are tied to the "Knowledge" scale, which increases by studying ancient manuscripts or performing rituals at shrines. Reaching the sixth Knowledge rank unlocks a completely new skill tree.
The equipment system features five distinct quality tiers: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. Players can upgrade their gear at a blacksmith and even customize its appearance. Special perks on armor and weapons promise to significantly impact gameplay strategies.
The iconic Hidden Blade returns as a devastating tool, capable of instantly eliminating enemies with a single, precise strike.
Assassin's Creed: Shadows launches worldwide on March 20th for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
