The Swarm's defining trait is its remarkable adaptability to the enemy. Some of its creatures' abilities scale with the level of the opposing unit, dealing higher damage the greater the difference between the Swarm unit and its prey. Others, like mantises, can select one of three abilities to use each round, adding a strategic layer to combat. Additionally, creatures such as worms and locusts can devour corpses to heal and empower themselves—a skill that heroes can also learn, enhancing their survivability and effectiveness on the battlefield.
In Olden Era, the role traditionally filled by demonic forces has been reimagined as an insectoid race, previously only hinted at in Might & Magic 8. The developers have crafted the Swarm with a deep respect for the original lore, infusing it with elements of body horror and occultism.
