The success story at Warhammer 40,000 creator Games Workshop continues to unfold, as the company has announced a generous £20 million (approximately $27 million) bonus for its staff. Based in Nottingham, UK, the mastermind behind the renowned Warhammer tabletop games and their immersive worlds reported a stellar performance for the 52 weeks ending June 1, 2025. Their core revenue reached £560 million, a significant increase from the previous period's £494.7 million. Licensing revenue also saw a remarkable jump to £50 million from £31 million. The core profit soared to £210 million from £174.8 million, while licensing profit climbed to £45 million from £27 million. This translates to a profit before tax of £255 million, up from £203 million.
In acknowledgment of the pivotal role played by their employees in achieving these exceptional results, Games Workshop is distributing the £20 million bonus equally among its staff. With an estimated 1,500 employees, this means each individual can expect a bonus of £13,333 (approximately $18,000), a slight increase from last year's £18 million bonus pool.
While Games Workshop's primary business remains the sale of miniatures for tabletop wargames like Warhammer 40,000, the company is rapidly evolving into a major intellectual property (IP) powerhouse. This shift is evident from the substantial revenue generated by blockbuster video games such as last year's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and animations like Amazon's Warhammer 40,000 Secret Level episode. The collaboration with Amazon has also led to a finalized deal for Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40,000 Cinematic Universe, which will expand into films and television series. Additionally, Space Marine 3 is currently in development, further cementing Games Workshop's growth in the IP sector.
Looking ahead, Games Workshop acknowledges that the record-breaking licensing revenue may not be replicated in the 2025/26 period, though licensing remains a key focus. With Warhammer 40,000 and the broader Warhammer universe experiencing unprecedented popularity, the company's trajectory suggests continued growth and innovation.
Recently, Games Workshop hosted its annual Warhammer Skulls showcase, which unveiled a series of exciting announcements and trailers. Among the highlights were the Definitive Edition of Dawn of War and the introduction of Siege mode for Space Marine 2, underscoring the company's commitment to expanding its gaming offerings.
