Path of Exile's developer, Grinding Gear Games (GGG), has issued an apology to Path of Exile 1 players for delaying the 3.26 update. The delay is due to the studio diverting resources to address critical issues in the recently released Path of Exile 2.
GGG had initially promised continued updates for Path of Exile 1 alongside the development of its sequel. However, the 3.26 update, initially slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025, has been postponed indefinitely. The last league for Path of Exile 1 was Settlers of Kalguur in July 2024.
In a video message, game director Jonathan Rogers explained that the Path of Exile 1 team was reassigned to help finalize Path of Exile 2's endgame before its December launch. They underestimated the challenges, however, as Path of Exile 2 experienced unexpected delays, crashes, and balance issues requiring immediate attention.
Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation, stating that diverting the experienced Path of Exile 1 team was a mistake given Path of Exile 2's critical state. He admitted to being overconfident in their ability to manage two games concurrently. While a release date for Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update remains uncertain, Rogers assures players that a plan is in place. The team will continue focusing on Path of Exile 2 until version 0.2.0 is released and stabilized.
Path of Exile 2's early access launch on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, was a significant success, becoming one of Steam's most played games.
