Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. This news has understandably caused significant disappointment among fans.
Omori's European Physical Release Cancellation
A String of Postponements
Meridiem Games' Twitter (X) announcement revealed the cancellation, stating only that technical issues with localization were responsible. Further inquiries regarding the specifics of these problems went unanswered.
Fans point to a history of delays. Initial listings showed a March 2023 release, subsequently pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders were ultimately canceled by retailers like Amazon. These repeated delays ultimately led to the cancellation.
The cancellation is a major blow to European fans, especially considering it would have been the first official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While importing a US copy remains an option, the cancellation prevents a localized physical release.
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends reality and Sunny's dream world, where he becomes Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was subsequently removed due to an issue with merchandise sold by OMOCAT in 2013.
