Metal Slug: Awakening puts a modern spin on the beloved '90s franchise. Originally teased in 2020 by TiMi Studios as Metal Slug Code: J, the game has undergone several delays and name changes before its Southeast Asian release in late 2023. Now, it's finally ready for a global launch.
For the uninitiated, Metal Slug is a renowned Japanese run-and-gun series that debuted in 1996, created by Nazca Corporation and later expanding into a multimedia franchise. While previous mobile entries like Metal Slug Defense (2014), Metal Slug Attack (2016), and Metal Slug Commander (2020) exist, Awakening promises enhanced features and gameplay.
The game retains its core shooter mechanics while boasting updated visuals and new gameplay elements. Players can expect to revisit familiar characters and embark on fresh missions. Game modes include a World Adventure, 3-player cooperative Team-up battles, and challenging Roguelike encounters.
