While Mario Kart World, the Nintendo Switch 2 launch title, doesn't initially feature the intense 200cc mode from Mario Kart 8, Nintendo suggests it may return in a future update.
The 200cc speed class debuted post-launch in Mario Kart 8, setting a precedent Nintendo might repeat for Mario Kart World - a strong possibility given developer comments.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Mario Kart World producer Kosuke Yabuki recognized 200cc's popularity among fans while carefully avoiding commitment to its inclusion.
"Certain players truly appreciate these higher difficulty options," Yabuki hinted. "Does that guarantee we'll implement engine classes beyond 150cc in Mario Kart World? That answer must wait for now."
Nintendo's decision to omit 200cc at launch proves strategic - it allows players to master tracks at standard speeds (150cc or below) before facing 200cc's demanding pace.
This phased approach proves especially valuable considering Mario Kart World's multiplayer focus, where synchronized progression enables cooperative exploration through voice chat and video features.

When 200cc eventually arrives, unified speed classes will maintain fair multiplayer exploration, making the current 150cc-only approach an essential learning period.
Launching with Nintendo Switch 2 this week, Mario Kart World features unprecedented open-world driving - though IGN cautions against expecting Forza Horizon-style gameplay. Separately, Nintendo clarified whether the game's popular bovine character actually consumes beef.
