Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been unveiled as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the 3DS, was developed by Next Level Games. This new Switch version, announced last September and slated for a June 27th release, sees Luigi once again tackling ghostly mansions in Evershade Valley to recover the fragments of the Dark Moon and capture King Boo.
Initial reactions to Luigi's Mansion 2 HD have been positive, with critics praising it as another high-quality Nintendo remaster, comparable to recent releases like Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game has unfortunately experienced pre-order issues similar to Paper Mario, with Walmart cancelling some orders.
The revelation of Tantalus Media's involvement comes just days before the game's launch. This mirrors Nintendo's past practice of keeping developer information under wraps until close to release, as seen with the Super Mario RPG remake. Similarly, the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Fury remains undisclosed, suggesting this strategy may continue for future Nintendo titles. Tantalus Media's extensive experience with Nintendo remasters assures fans that Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is in capable hands.
