Sony’s *Killzone* franchise has remained dormant for quite some time, fading into the background of PlayStation’s expansive game library. However, in a recent interview, renowned *Killzone* composer Joris de Man joined the growing list of voices hoping to see the franchise make a triumphant return.
Speaking with VideoGamer during the *PlayStation: The Concert Tour*, de Man shared his thoughts on the possibility of *Killzone* coming back. He acknowledged the fan-led petitions and expressed his personal hope that the series might one day be revived.
“I know that there have been petitions for it,” de Man said. “I think it’s [tricky] because I can’t speak for Guerrilla or anything… I don’t know if it will ever happen. I hope it will, because I think it is quite an iconic franchise. But I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in what people want, because it is quite bleak in some ways.”
When considering how *Killzone* could potentially return, de Man suggested that a remastered collection may be more viable than a brand-new entry. He noted that while a remaster could find success, a completely new game might not resonate as strongly with today’s audience.
“I think [a] remastered one would be successful. I don’t know if a new game would be as much. I don’t know — sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick.”
The *Killzone* series is known for its slower-paced, weighty gameplay when compared to fast-moving shooters like *Call of Duty*. Notably, *Killzone 2* gained infamy for its perceived input lag on PlayStation 3, which affected the game’s responsiveness. Visually and thematically, the series leaned into a dark, gritty, and often oppressive atmosphere — a stark contrast to the colorful and accessible worlds seen in many modern shooters.
In a separate conversation with the Washington Post, it appeared that Guerrilla Games, the studio behind *Killzone*, has largely shifted its focus toward the *Horizon* series — another critically acclaimed PlayStation-exclusive franchise. Still, with over a decade having passed since the release of *Killzone: Shadow Fall*, the idea of a revival continues to spark interest among loyal fans.
Whether through a nostalgic remaster or a bold new direction, the call for *Killzone*’s return remains alive. And now, at least one more voice — that of Joris de Man — echoes the sentiment that this iconic PlayStation shooter franchise deserves another shot.
