In a recent video titled 'A Bad Month,' popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, shared his disappointment over the cancellation of a Soma animated show he had been working on for a year. Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015 and has been a favorite of Jacksepticeye, who streamed it extensively upon its launch.

Jacksepticeye spoke candidly about a challenging period creatively, marked by the failure of several projects, including the Soma animated show. He expressed his deep affection for Soma, ranking it among the top video games of all time due to its compelling story. The project involved extensive discussions with the game's developers and was on the brink of entering full production when it unexpectedly fell apart. Jacksepticeye attributed the collapse to an unnamed party's decision to take the project "in a different direction," a move that left him "quite upset."
The cancellation has significantly impacted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025, leaving him uncertain about his priorities and next steps. He had planned to dedicate much of his year to the project, which would have limited his content uploads but promised a rewarding creative endeavor to share with his audience. The abrupt end to the project has left him frustrated and without the anticipated outcome of his efforts.
Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In the wake of The Bunker's release, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the company's intention to shift focus away from horror games towards exploring other emotional qualities in gaming. Grip emphasized the importance of immersive experiences and the exploration of themes beyond just horror, aiming to evoke a broader range of emotions in players.
