Gordang Sambilan, a traditional art form of the Mandailing Batak people, translates literally to "nine drums." This ensemble consists of nine drums of varying lengths and diameters, each producing a unique tone. Six players typically perform, with the smaller drums (1 and 2) acting as taba-taba, drum 3 as tepe-tepe, drums 4 and 5 as kudong-kudong and kudong-kudong nabalik respectively, drum 6 as pasilion, and drums 7, 8, and 9 as jangat. Historically performed only during sacred ceremonies, Gordang Sambilan is now frequently featured at weddings, welcoming ceremonies, and holidays. As a testament to its cultural significance, this Indonesian heritage has even been performed at the Presidential Palace. [2]
