Rummy 500, also known as Persian Rummy, Pinochle Rummy, 500 Rum, or 500 Rummy, is a beloved variant of the classic Rummy family. While it shares similarities with straight Rummy, it stands out by allowing players to draw multiple cards from the discard pile, not just the top one.
Under standard Rummy 500 rules, players earn points for cards melded into sets or sequences, while unmelded cards (deadwood) left in hand when another player goes out incur point penalties.
Game Rules:
• Playable by 2 to 4 players, like most traditional card games.
• Uses a single deck including jokers.
• Each player is dealt 7 cards.
• The goal is to be the first player to reach 500 points.
• If multiple players hit the target, only the one with the highest score wins.
• Form valid sets (3 or 4 cards of the same rank) and sequences (3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit). Scoring is based on the point values of the cards in these melds.
• Each turn involves drawing a card at the start and discarding one at the end.
• During your turn, you may also lay down a new meld or add cards to an existing meld (yours or an opponent's), an action known as building.
• Jokers act as wild cards, substituting for any card in a set or sequence.
• You may pick up one or more cards from the discard pile, but you must use the last card taken immediately in a meld.
• If you take from the discard pile and cannot use the bottom card right away, the move is not allowed.
• Face cards (King, Queen, Jack) are worth 10 points. An Ace can be worth 11 points in a meld but carries a 15-point penalty if held unmelded. A Joker takes the value of the card it replaces and also adds a 15-point penalty if caught in hand.
• The game consists of multiple rounds.
• Points are accumulated round by round. The first player whose total meets or exceeds the target score wins.
• The game concludes when the target is reached. In case of a tie, a playoff round determines the ultimate winner.
