Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the formidable Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for victory.
Phase 1: A Solo Duel
This phase is a one-on-one battle in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, launching stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:
- Close Range: Four stones are summoned, demanding swift evasion.
- Long Range: Eight stones are launched in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.
Maintain a safe distance when he summons numerous stones to avoid heavy damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao possesses close-combat combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat to avoid damage.
Later, he unleashes red-aura attacks (uncancelable), summoning a rockfall and clones. The best approach is to maintain distance until the attacks conclude. Equip a sword for optimal damage output.
Manage your health carefully. You'll likely have limited healing opportunities (four, depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are available near the arena entrance; utilize them during breaks in the fighting.
Phase 2: A Tide of Yellow Turbans
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite and healing opportunities (meat buns!). Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes; be mindful of the wind to avoid being thrown off balance.
Defeating sufficient soldiers triggers Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic. You must eliminate 300 soldiers within minutes to prevent a devastating attack. He'll also summon lightning strikes; observe the ground for warning rings before evading. Musou Mode (basic, not Rage) is efficient for quickly eliminating large groups of soldiers.
Foiling his Grand Tactic twice returns Zhang Jiao to the battlefield, employing Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, defeating him should be relatively straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.
