Mastering the Voodoo Doll in Phasmophobia: A Guide to Risk and Reward
Phasmophobia's Cursed Possessions offer shortcuts to identifying ghosts, but at a cost. The Voodoo Doll is a prime example, offering a potentially high reward but demanding careful consideration of its risks. This guide explains how to obtain and effectively utilize this dangerous item.
Using the Voodoo Doll
The Voodoo Doll's primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. By sequentially inserting pins, you encourage ghost activity, making it ideal for evasive or inactive spirits. This can be crucial for triggering evidence like EMF5 readings or UV-light traces.
Ten pins are available for insertion. However, each pin insertion reduces sanity by 5%, with all ten pins depleting 50% of your sanity – significantly increasing the risk of a ghost hunt.
The most significant risk lies with the "heart" pin. Its random placement means a single, unlucky insertion can trigger an immediate Cursed Hunt, dropping sanity by 10% and initiating a prolonged (20 seconds longer) hunt. The ghost will aggressively target your location.
Despite the inherent danger, the Voodoo Doll's potential for evidence gathering can be worthwhile, especially with a well-coordinated team and strategic planning.
Understanding Cursed Possessions
Cursed Possessions (or Cursed Objects) are unique items that randomly appear across Phasmophobia's maps, with frequency potentially influenced by difficulty and game mode (Challenge Mode). Unlike standard equipment, which offers relatively safe evidence gathering, Cursed Possessions manipulate the ghost's behavior at considerable risk to the player.
The seven Cursed Possessions include:
- Haunted Mirror
- Voodoo Doll
- Music Box
- Tarot Cards
- Ouija Board
- Monkey Paw
- Summoning Circle
Each object presents a different risk-reward profile. Choosing to use them is entirely optional, with no penalty for leaving them untouched. Note that only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless adjusted in Custom settings).
