Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's latest venture into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., requires players to purchase an NFT to participate. Let's delve into the details.
A Stealth NFT Launch
As reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, Ubisoft discreetly released Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter. This game utilizes cryptocurrency for gameplay.
According to Eden Online, the game expands upon the universe established in the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, incorporating elements from popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed.
The game's competitive multiplayer aspect is limited to 10,000 players, each requiring a Citizen ID Card. This NFT card tracks player stats, achievements, and evolves based on in-game performance.
To acquire a card, players need a crypto wallet and must purchase an NFT Niji Warrior ID card from Ubisoft's dedicated page for approximately $25.63. Citizens can even relinquish their citizenship and sell their IDs on the secondary market, with potential value fluctuations based on in-game success.
Ubisoft's Magic Eden page indicates a full launch in Q1 2025, although early access is available to those who secured an ID.
Inspired by Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon
The Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, serves as the inspiration. It's an animated spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC, set in an alternate 1992 where the U.S. is Eden, a megacorporation-controlled technocracy. The series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, after his defection and subsequent capture, forcing him to work against his former partner.
While Ubisoft hasn't revealed much about the game's storyline, it shares the same universe, placing players as citizens under Eden's rule. Player actions, such as mission completion and community engagement, directly influence the game's narrative and leaderboard rankings.
