Pokémon TCG Sets a New Guinness World Record: 20,000 Cards Opened in 24 Hours!
Popular online personalities teamed up with The Pokémon Company to achieve a remarkable feat: opening over 20,000 Pokémon TCG cards in a 24-hour livestream marathon, setting a new Guinness World Record!
A Record-Breaking Livestream
On November 26th, 2024, The Pokémon Company International shattered the existing Guinness World Record for the longest unboxing livestream. This monumental event celebrated the launch of the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion.
The livestream, hosted on Pokémon's Twitch channel, featured prominent internet personalities including Joe Merrick (Serebii), PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. These influencers opened 1,500 booster packs and other Pokémon products, accumulating an estimated 20,000+ cards, as reported on the official Pokémon press website.
Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It's been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we're thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators."
The collected cards will be organized and donated to charities before the holidays, including Barnardo’s in the UK. Fans are encouraged to watch participating content creators' channels over the next two weeks for additional giveaways.
Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks: A New Expansion
Released on November 8th, 2024, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks transports players to the Terarium, a key location in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk. The expansion introduces Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, such as the defensively powerful Archaludon ex.
Fans can also find iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex. The expansion also features Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare cards, including Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, showcasing serene ocean scenes. New Tera Pokémon ex, like Pallossand ex and Flygon ex, add excitement to players' decks.
The expansion is also available digitally through the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering in-game bonuses for collecting and battling with the new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex.
