Meta Quest Pro Officially Discontinued; Meta Quest 3 Takes the Helm
Meta has officially discontinued its high-end VR headset, the Meta Quest Pro. The company's website now reflects its unavailability, confirming earlier announcements about its impending end-of-life. The decision comes after the Quest Pro failed to achieve expected sales, largely attributed to its $1,499.99 price tag—significantly higher than the standard Meta Quest line (ranging from $299.99 to $499.99). This price point proved prohibitive for most consumers and hindered corporate adoption.
While remaining units might still exist in retail stores, prospective buyers are advised to act quickly. Meta itself directs consumers to the Meta Quest 3 as a superior alternative, boasting a more compelling mixed reality experience at a lower cost.
The Meta Quest 3: A Worthy Successor
The Meta Quest 3 offers many of the Quest Pro's features, including mixed reality capabilities (overlaying virtual content onto the real world), but at a considerably more accessible $499. Importantly, the Quest 3 surpasses the Quest Pro in several technical aspects: it's lighter, boasts higher resolution and refresh rate, promising a more comfortable and immersive experience. Furthermore, the Quest Pro's Touch Pro controllers are compatible with the Quest 3.
For budget-conscious users, the Meta Quest 2S provides an even more affordable option at $299.99, albeit with slightly reduced specifications.
