Nexus Mods' owner, TheDarkOne, clarified the situation on Reddit, stating that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. TheDarkOne highlighted the hypocrisy of YouTube commentators who seemingly ignored the removal of both mods.
However, the fallout didn't stop there. TheDarkOne revealed a barrage of threats and hateful messages directed at the platform following the removals. These included death threats and accusations of pedophilia.
This isn't an isolated incident. In 2022, Nexus Mods faced similar backlash after removing a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. At the time, the platform publicly defended its commitment to inclusivity and its policy of removing content deemed discriminatory.
