Konami debuts Silent Hill f, reboot for all fans

Silent Hill f serves as an entirely original entry unrelated to previous Silent Hill titles. Similar to Silent Hill 2, it presents a self-contained narrative "separate from the franchise." Publisher Konami officially addressed this on X/Twitter, clarifying that this upcoming horror installment — traditionally set in an American coastal town — will be "a brand-new experience" accessible to "players unfamiliar with the Silent Hill series." This narrative autonomy isn't unprecedented for the franchise. While Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins share continuity, other entries — most notably Silent Hill 2 — feature looser connections to the town. Silent Hill 4: The Room and Homecoming even partially unfold beyond the namesake location. Konami's announcement definitively confirms that appreciating Silent Hill f's 1960s Japanese setting won't require familiarity with the 26-year-old series. Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan, centering on teenager Shimizu Hinako as she navigates societal pressures. The story comes from Ryukishi07, creator of the When They Cry visual novel series. As previewed in March's Japanese reveal trailer, this marks the first Silent Hill game receiving Japan's 18+ rating. Though ratings may evolve during development, previous Japanese-developed Silent Hill games (Silent Hill-The Room) carried CERO:C ratings (15+), while international titles typically received CERO:C or D (17+). Silent Hill f carries Mature (US), PEGI 18 (Europe), and CERO:Z (Japan) classifications. No release date has been announced for Silent Hill f. Similarly, no updates have surfaced regarding No Code's Townfall project.
