In an exciting revelation at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate between two highly anticipated characters: Omni-Man and Homelander. Addressing fan concerns about potential similarities in their combat styles, Boon emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is taking a unique approach to ensure these characters feel distinct and offer different gameplay experiences.
During an interview with IGN, Boon explained that the creative freedom granted to the team allows for a wide range of ideas to be explored. However, he made it clear that they intend to avoid overlapping abilities, especially those reminiscent of Superman, such as heat vision. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated, reassuring fans that the characters will have unique move sets.
Boon also highlighted how the team has drawn inspiration from the characters' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. This approach not only adds a layer of authenticity but also ensures that Omni-Man and Homelander will play differently. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon added, emphasizing the team's commitment to delivering unique experiences for each character.
