Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Conquering Zoma's Citadel – A Comprehensive Guide
This guide provides a complete walkthrough of Zoma's Citadel in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, the game's ultimate challenge. We'll cover reaching the citadel, navigating each floor, defeating the bosses, and identifying every monster within.
Reaching Zoma's Citadel
After defeating Baramos, you'll enter the darkened world of Alefgard. To reach Zoma's Citadel, you need the Rainbow Drop, created by combining:
- Sunstone (Tantegel Castle)
- Staff of Rain (Shrine of the Spirit)
- Sacred Amulet (Rubiss, after freeing her in the Tower of Rubiss – requires the Faerie Flute)
The Rainbow Drop creates the Rainbow Bridge, your path to Zoma's Citadel.
Zoma's Citadel Walkthrough
1F:
Navigate the east or west side of the chamber to reach the throne. Activating it reveals a hidden passage. Beware the Living Statues!
- Treasure: Mini Medal (buried behind throne), Seed of Magic (electrified panel)
B1:
This level is primarily a pathway to B2, unless you use the alternative stair sets on 1F.
- Treasure: Hapless Helm (chest)
B2:
Master the directional tiles to reach the stairs to B3. (Practice on the third floor of the Tower of Rubiss if needed). Remember: Blue/Orange halves dictate North/South movement; the orange arrow's direction and UP/DOWN on the D-pad control East/West.
- Treasure: Scourge Whip (chest), 4,989 Gold Coins (chest)
B3:
Follow the outer edge. A detour to the southwest corner reveals Sky, a friendly Soaring Scourger. Falling through holes on B2 leads to an isolated chamber with a Liquid Metal Slime.
- Treasure (Main Chamber): Dragon Dojo Duds (chest), Double-Edged Sword (chest)
- Treasure (Isolated Chamber): Bastard Sword (chest)
B4:
Navigate from the center south, up and around, then to the southeast corner to reach the final boss gauntlet. Don't miss the cutscene upon entry!
- Treasure: Shimmering Dress, Prayer Ring, Sage's Stone, Yggdrasil Leaf, Dieamend, Mini Medal (all in one chamber)
Defeating the Bosses
Before Zoma, you face the King Hydra, Soul of Baramos, and Bones of Baramos. Use items between fights.
- King Hydra: Vulnerable to Kazap. Aggressive tactics are recommended.
- Soul of Baramos: Weak to Zap.
- Bones of Baramos: Similar weaknesses to the Soul; stronger attacks, requires careful health management.
- Zoma: Initially protected by a magic barrier. Use the Sphere of Light prompt to remove the barrier, then exploit his weakness to Zap attacks. Prioritize HP and avoid over-aggressiveness.
