The Yellow Orb, one of six colored orbs in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, presents a unique challenge. While the steps to obtain it are relatively simple, discovering the starting point can be tricky. This guide will help you navigate this puzzle and acquire the Yellow Orb.
The Yellow Orb resides in Merchantburg, a town initially marked only as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave to establish the settlement. This means the town might be called Christopherburg, or something else, depending on your choice of name. You must help Merchantburg grow before obtaining the Yellow Orb.
Locating Merchantburg (???)
After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location is revealed. With quest markers enabled, you'll find it in the northeast corner of the world map. It's accessible by sailing west from the coast, reaching the easternmost point of the eastern continent.
Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg
While orb collection order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is recommended. The town requires significant time to develop before the Yellow Orb becomes available. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently, returning to Merchantburg as it grows.
Obtaining the Yellow Orb
Establishing Merchantburg:
First, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Travel directly to Merchantburg to minimize combat encounters with your new party member.
Upon arrival, enter the sole building. An old man will request a merchant to found the town. Assign your newly hired merchant, who will then leave your party to establish the settlement. This is where the town's name is officially set.
Merchantburg's Growth and Your Return:
After establishing Merchantburg, proceed with obtaining the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and the Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel). As you progress, you'll receive notifications prompting you to return to Merchantburg.
The town progresses through five growth stages, each marked by a notification. The first four visits reveal gradual expansion, culminating in a large cabaret's construction. Upon leaving the cabaret, be wary of a security guard attempting to overcharge you.
During the fourth visit, notice your merchant's growing arrogance among the townsfolk. This signals the end of their reign, but also the Yellow Orb's imminent availability.
Acquiring the Yellow Orb:
Visit Merchantburg at night during your fifth and final visit. The merchant will be absent from their home. You'll find the town has revolted, imprisoning the merchant in a building south of their home.
Speak to the imprisoned merchant, who will reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's home; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground behind the sofa to uncover the Yellow Orb.
For most players, the Yellow Orb will likely be the penultimate orb acquired. The other orbs are found at: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
