Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates
Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has unexpectedly received a minor update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The update, a relatively small download (230MB on Steam, requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates.
Developed by Arkane Lyon, the studio behind the highly-regarded 2021 title Deathloop, Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design. The studio's current focus, however, is on Marvel's Blade, a collaboration with Marvel Games. This contrasts with the unfortunate closure of Arkane Austin (developer of the original Dishonored and Prey) as part of the 2024 Xbox studio restructuring.
The sudden arrival of this patch has sparked discussion among fans, many expressing disappointment that it doesn't include a highly requested 60 FPS mode. While other Arkane titles benefit from performance boosts on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. This is notable considering even the original Dishonored and its standalone spin-off, Death of the Outsider, now support 60 FPS. A potential 60 FPS update for Dishonored 2's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains a possibility, though it's unclear if this would be sufficient to appease fans' long-standing requests.
The lack of a new mainline Dishonored entry also continues to be a point of discussion. The closure of Arkane Austin significantly impacts Arkane's development output, pushing any potential future Dishonored title further into the future. For now, Arkane Lyon's attention remains firmly on the upcoming Marvel's Blade, with no official release date yet announced.
