Firaxis Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event to Prioritize Quality of Life Enhancements
Focusing on Player Experience

Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has postponed its debut in-game event to dedicate development time to crucial quality-of-life improvements. A February 28, 2025, update from Firaxis Games detailed a revised development roadmap, highlighting this shift in priorities.
Update 1.1.0, launching March 4, 2025 (with a separate Nintendo Switch release date), will omit the planned "Natural Wonder Battle" event. Firaxis explained the delay, stating that prioritizing player feedback and implementing essential quality-of-life enhancements takes precedence. Further details on the event's rescheduled launch will be announced later.
Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with several players expressing concerns about certain features, particularly the user interface (UI). Firaxis acknowledges this feedback and assures players that improvements are underway.
Update 1.1.0 Addresses Community Concerns

Update 1.1.0 directly addresses community feedback. While complete patch notes will be released upon launch, key improvements include:
- A new free natural wonder: the Bermuda Triangle.
- Significant UI enhancements to address player concerns.
- Substantial adjustments to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions, improving AI performance in achieving Cultural Victories.
- The first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released alongside the update for those who own the relevant editions or have purchased the collection separately.
March 25th Update and Beyond

A subsequent major update is scheduled for March 25, 2025 (subject to change), further emphasizing UI refinements. This is part of a broader, multi-month plan to significantly improve the user experience.
Future enhancements planned for Civ 7 include:
- An extended gameplay option allowing players to continue beyond the Modern Age ("one more turn").
- Auto-explore functionality.
- New map sizes (PC and consoles, excluding Switch).
- Multiplayer improvements.
Firaxis emphasizes that while these features are prioritized, development timelines remain fluid and updates will be shared as plans solidify.
Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates!
