Atari's 50th Anniversary Celebration Expands with 39 More Classic Games!
Atari, a pioneering force in the early home video game console market, continues to celebrate its rich history. Following the successful launch of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration in 2022, a significantly expanded edition is on the horizon. This comprehensive collection originally boasted over 90 retro titles, spanning from the Atari 2600 to the Atari Jaguar, and included remasters of beloved classics like Yar's Revenge, Quadratank, and Haunted House. The collection also featured an interactive timeline detailing Atari's journey.
The upcoming Extended Edition, arriving October 25th, 2024, across major consoles and the Atari VCS, will add a whopping 39 more games! This expansion isn't just about quantity; it delves deeper into Atari's legacy with two new timelines: "The Wider World of Atari" and "The First Console War."
"The Wider World of Atari" showcases Atari's enduring influence through 19 playable games and eight video segments, featuring new interviews, vintage ads, and historical artifacts curated by Digital Eclipse. Meanwhile, "The First Console War" recounts the intense rivalry between the Atari 2600 and Mattel's Intellivision in the early 1980s, presented through 20 playable games and six video segments.
While the full list of newly added games remains under wraps, Atari has hinted at a deeper exploration of Berzerk, lesser-known late-80s titles, and fan favorites from Mattel's M Network.
Physical copies for Nintendo Switch and PS5 will also be available. The Switch version, priced at $49.99, offers a Steelbook case with bonus items including Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcade marquee signs, and an Al Alcorn Replica Syzygy Co. business card. The standard digital edition will cost $39.99. Get ready to revisit (or discover!) a wealth of Atari gaming history this October!
