VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication Application
The VNeID application, developed by Vietnam's National Population Data Center (Ministry of Public Security), leverages population data for identification and electronic authentication. Designed for residents and visitors in Vietnam, VNeID offers a digital alternative to physical documents, streamlining various processes.

Application Access and Permissions:
VNeID requires access to certain device functions:
- Internet Access: For data transmission and application functionality.
- Camera Access: To scan CCCD (Citizen Identity Card) QR codes for faster data entry and to scan QR codes at checkpoints for efficient travel and medical declarations.
- Media Access: To store scanned QR code images for verification at checkpoints.
- Notification Access: To send alerts and updates to the user.
Personal Information Collection:
Users provide information voluntarily, including name, phone number, citizen ID, gender, birthdate, address, nationality, health status, travel details (departure/destination, vehicle information), and COVID-19 exposure details. All data collection is subject to user consent. Users are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the information they provide.
Privacy and Data Protection:
The National Population Data Center secures user data, using it solely for COVID-19 prevention and control, public health initiatives, and disease prevention. Data is never used for commercial purposes or to violate user privacy. Data sharing is limited to health authorities and other relevant agencies for effective disease control. The application developers do not collect or use user information for any other purpose and will not disclose information that could harm users or violate Vietnamese law or application policy.
Key Privacy Features:
- No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
- Anonymity: User participation is anonymous except for information shared with authorities regarding confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases for contact tracing purposes.
