Palace, also known as Shed, Karma, or "OG," is a classic card game that was a staple in my high school's study halls and cafeterias back in the '90s. According to Wikipedia, its popularity extends to backpackers, making it a widely recognized game across different communities.
We've recently updated Palace with new features based on user requests. You can now pick up from the pile at any time, and a 7 card forces players to play a lower card. Additionally, we've introduced the ability to play against friends, enhancing the social aspect of the game.
In Palace, you can challenge eight distinct computer characters, each boasting unique playing styles, or engage in live matches with your friends for a more personalized experience.
Basic Rules:
To start, each player receives 3 'face down cards,' which remain unseen and untouched until the game's end. Next, 3 'face up cards' are placed on top of these. Finally, players are dealt 3 cards to form their hand, with the option to swap cards between their hand and face up cards.
The game begins with the player holding a 3 or the next lowest card. On your turn, you must discard a card (or multiple cards of the same value) that is equal to or higher than the top card of the pick-up pile. After discarding, draw cards from the deck to maintain at least 3 cards in your hand, unless the deck is depleted or you already have 3 or more cards.
2's and 10's serve as wild cards; a 2 resets the pile, while a 10 or four of a kind clears it. If you can't play a card higher than or equal to the top card or use a wild card, you're obligated to pick up the entire pile.
Once your hand is empty and the deck is exhausted, you proceed to your face up cards. After playing all face up cards, you move to the face down cards. The first player to discard all their cards emerges victorious.
