Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, bringing relief to fans who were initially worried. As IGN reported last week, the earlier disclaimer on Nintendo's pages for the Switch 2 edition of Tears of the Kingdom stated: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This caused concern among the gaming community about the absence of cloud save functionality.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website, clarifying the situation. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the revised disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This update suggests that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to their new Switch 2 devices, although transferring saves from Switch 2 back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.
The same message has been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.
In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price of $449.99. As expected, the pre-orders were met with significant demand. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
