Rumors suggest Microsoft plans to launch a Halo: Combat Evolved remastered edition in 2026.
At the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer hinted at several upcoming titles slated for next year, such as the new Fable installment, the next Forza release, Gears of War: E-Day, and what he described as "the revival of a legendary franchise that started it all."
While this clearly points to Halo, The Verge journalist Tom Warren confirmed the tease specifically references a Halo: Combat Evolved remake.

Warren previously reported on this project's development, noting it may potentially release on competing platforms like PlayStation 5. Microsoft previously remastered Halo CE in 2011 with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, later included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
This isn't an entirely new Halo title - Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) is currently developing a brand-new entry using Unreal Engine 5. In 2024, the studio shared a seven-minute demonstration of Project Foundry, an experimental initiative showcasing Unreal Engine's potential for the franchise. Though essentially a technical preview, it signaled an ambitious reboot for Xbox's premier series following Halo Infinite's 2021 release.
