While every film genre has its share of disappointments, video game adaptations seem to have more than most. Cult classics like 1993's Super Mario Bros. and 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation are still remembered for missing the mark entirely and failing to capture the essence of their source material. Fortunately, Hollywood's approach has evolved in recent years, with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and The Super Mario Bros. Movie pointing toward a brighter future for the genre.
