In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively easy, keeping the undead hordes at bay requires strategic defense. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective method: barricading windows.
How to Secure Your Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these essentials, simply right-click the window you wish to secure. Your character will automatically begin the process, attaching the plank. Each window can accommodate up to four planks for increased protection.
Locating these supplies is key. Hammers and nails are typically found in expected locations – toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are most commonly found at construction sites, or can be salvaged by breaking down wooden furniture in a pinch. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command for item spawning.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access compared to unprotected ones. The more planks installed, the more time it takes for the undead to breach your defenses. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as barricades; players and zombies will simply pass through them. While not ideal for defense, knowing how to move furniture is useful for interior design.
For enhanced protection, consider metal bars or sheets, but remember that sufficient Metalworking skill is required for their construction.
