The Blood of Dawnwalker: A Dark Fantasy RPG Unveiled
Rebel Wolves' recently revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world dark fantasy action-RPG, promises a compelling narrative experience. The game, showcased at its reveal event on January 16th, offers a unique blend of action and story-driven gameplay.
Embark on Coen's Journey
Players take on the role of Coen, a Dawnwalker – a being existing between human and vampire – in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Unlike typical protagonists, Coen is portrayed as emotional and vulnerable, adding depth to his character arc. He finds himself pitted against Brencis, a powerful vampire who has plunged Vale Sangora into darkness. Coen's mission: save his family within a 30-day/night timeframe. While the game features a time constraint, developers assure ample playtime.
The reveal trailer highlights Coen's supernatural abilities, including superhuman agility and magical prowess. While many questions remain, Rebel Wolves addressed some frequently asked questions on their Discord server.
Dawnwalkers, clarified Rebel Wolves, are not simply hybrids but a distinct entity. The game's magic system, unlike typical high-fantasy fare, focuses on occult practices, rituals, and artifacts, rather than flashy spells.
A Narrative Sandbox with Rich Character Interactions
Coen's quest to save his family unfolds within a "narrative sandbox," granting players significant control over the story's progression. The nonlinear gameplay allows for multiple approaches to the central goal, with the world dynamically responding to player choices. To maintain this single-player focus, multiplayer or co-op modes are absent. However, romantic relationships with various characters, including members of different races (uriashi, kobolds, potentially werewolves), are planned.
Developed by a team of former CD Projekt Red developers (known for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though a release date remains unannounced.
