A groundbreaking tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has been unveiled, offering gamers an immersive journey through a futuristic cyberpunk cityscape. Crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, this project takes inspiration from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the visually stunning Blade Runner franchise, and the immersive world of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was demonstrated on cutting-edge hardware, including an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM operating at 6000MHz.
This technical showcase is powered entirely by dynamic lighting, highlighting the prowess of Unreal Engine 5's Nanite technology in conjunction with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, as well as Screen Space Reflections. It's noteworthy that the demo does not utilize more advanced features such as Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting, demonstrating the impressive capabilities of UE5 even without its most advanced tools.
While the rain effect might seem slightly artificial, the rendering of wet surfaces is exceptionally detailed, enriching the depth of the urban environment. However, the demo's immersion is hampered by frequent invisible walls. Although Unreal Engine 5 tech demos continue to deliver visually spectacular experiences, games developed on this engine often face performance challenges when applied in real-world gaming scenarios.
