Apple iPhone 16 Pro

2The iPhone 16 Pro strikes an ideal balance between size and power, featuring a stunning display and versatile cameras. See it at Best BuySee it at Apple Product Specifications Screen: 6.3-inch OLED, 1206x2622, 460 ppi, 120Hz refresh rate Processor: A18 Pro Camera: 48-Megapixel Wide, 48-Megapixel Ultrawide, 12-Megapixel Telephoto, 12-Megapixel Selfie Battery: 3,582mAh Weight: 199g (0.44lb) PROS

  • Powerful performance
  • Elegant design
  • Robust camera system CONS
  • Camera settings could be more intuitive

The iPhone 16 Pro fills the gap between the base iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, offering a more manageable size for one-handed use while retaining all the features and camera sensors. For those who prefer a larger screen, the iPhone 16 Pro Max provides a similar experience.

Powered by the A18 Pro chip, the iPhone 16 Pro delivers exceptional performance for everyday tasks and gaming. It achieved the highest single-core Geekbench 6 score I've seen in both phones and laptops, complemented by a powerful GPU for smooth gameplay at high settings.

Apple's build quality remains top-notch, though the color options are less vibrant. The screen is exceptional, combining high brightness and contrast with a fluid 120Hz refresh rate. Despite Apple's claims about the durability of the Ceramic Shield glass, it's still susceptible to scratches, making protective cases a good investment.

The camera system on the iPhone 16 Pro excels, particularly in low-light conditions. The main sensor performs brilliantly, while the ultra-wide lens occasionally struggles with softness and noise, which might be improved with manual focus. The 5x telephoto lens is great for portraits and distant subjects. Apple's new Camera Control offers a more intuitive way to navigate settings, though there's room for refinement in future updates.

Apple iPhone 16

2The iPhone 16 offers excellent performance and vibrant color options at a more affordable price. See it at Best BuySee it at Apple Product Specifications Screen: 6.3-inch OLED, 1206x2622, 460 ppi, 120Hz refresh rate Processor: A18 Camera: 48-Megapixel Wide, 48-Megapixel Ultrawide, 12-Megapixel Telephoto, 12-Megapixel Selfie Battery: 3,582mAh Weight: 199g (0.44lb) PROS

  • Excellent performance
  • Fun colors CONS
  • Ultra-wide and selfie shots can be soft

The iPhone 16 stands out as a stellar mid-range option, powered by the A18 chip, which closely matches the performance of the A18 Pro found in the Pro models. It outperforms many Android devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets, making it perfect for everyday use and demanding games like Wuthering Waves.

With a range of colorful options and the same Ceramic Shield protection, the iPhone 16 is both stylish and durable. Its compact size is comfortable for pocket and hand use, and the 6.1-inch OLED display, while not as smooth as the Pro models' 120Hz refresh rate, remains sharp and vibrant. The main camera performs admirably, though the ultra-wide and selfie cameras may require software updates to address softness issues.

  1. iPhone 16e

Best Budget iPhone

Apple iPhone 16e

0The iPhone 16e offers a potent chip at a lower price but with some trade-offs. See it at Apple Product Specifications Screen: 6.1-inch OLED, 1170x2532, 60Hz refresh rate Processor: A18 Camera: 48-Megapixel Wide, 12-Megapixel Selfie Battery: 4,005mAh Weight: 167g (0.39lb) PROS

  • Fast chip
  • Lower price than main iPhone lineup CONS
  • Lacks some common iPhone features

With the introduction of the iPhone 16e, Apple's budget option has shifted to a starting price of $599. Despite this, the iPhone 16e offers the A18 chip with slightly less GPU power than the iPhone 16, ensuring fast performance and access to Apple Intelligence features. The design has been updated to include a larger 6.1-inch OLED display, an aluminum frame, and Ceramic Shield glass, along with increased base storage of 128GB.

However, the iPhone 16e omits key features like MagSafe, wireless charging, mmWave 5G, UWB support, and a second rear camera, which limits its functionality and camera capabilities. While it remains a viable option for those seeking a simple, new iPhone, refurbished and renewed devices, like the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15 available on Amazon for under $500, offer compelling alternatives.

OnePlus 13

0The OnePlus 13 offers a great design, excellent display, superb performance, and impressive cameras at a discounted flagship price. See it at Best BuySee it at OnePlus Product Specifications Screen: 6.82-inch OLED, 1440x3168, 510ppi, 120Hz refresh rate Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite Camera: 50-Megapixel Wide, 50-Megapixel Ultrawide, 50-Megapixel Telephoto, 32-Megapixel Selfie Battery: 6,000mAh Weight: 210g (0.46lb) PROS

  • Great value
  • Fast performance CONS
  • Software support slightly shorter than rivals

For those open to alternatives, the OnePlus 13 at $899 offers a compelling package that rivals the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It features a triple-camera setup with a 50MP telephoto, main, and ultra-wide sensors, delivering outstanding photo and video quality.

The display is nearly as impressive as the iPhone 16 Pro Max's, with a 6.82-inch OLED panel, a 120Hz refresh rate, and adaptive power-saving features. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the OnePlus 13 matches or exceeds the iPhone 16 Pro Max in performance and gaming, backed by a large 6,000mAh battery and fast charging options.

The OnePlus 13's design is sleek and stylish, offering multiple colorways and unique finishes. It also includes an alert slider and boasts superior water resistance with IP68 and IP69 ratings. For those not tied to iOS, the OnePlus 13 is a strong contender.

Upcoming iPhones

Apple introduced several new models in 2024, including the iPhone 16 series, which bring significant performance enhancements. They've also adjusted prices on older models. The iPhone 16e was introduced as a more affordable option, replacing the iPhone SE. Rumors and leaks hint at the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, which may include an iPhone Air.

What to Look for in an Apple iPhone

The user experience across Apple's iPhone models is consistent, which is a major draw for many. However, the differences between models can influence your choice. Here's what to consider when buying an iPhone in 2025:

Phone Size

Size is crucial for usability. For one-handed operation, consider the iPhone 16 or iPhone 14. Larger hands might prefer the iPhone 16 Plus or iPhone 16 Pro Max for their bigger screens.

Storage Capacity

Think about your storage needs. If you're a heavy user of high-resolution media, the iPhone 16 Pro Max with 1TB is ideal. For casual use, the base 128GB on other models should suffice.

Price

The iPhone range spans from the budget-friendly iPhone 16e at $599 to the premium iPhone 16 Pro Max (1TB) at $1,599. All models come with iOS, ensuring long-term software support and updates.

When choosing an iPhone, consider how you'll use it. The iPhone 16 Pro is often the best choice for its well-rounded features, including a fast processor, excellent cameras, and a range of storage options at a reasonable price.
