In *Avowed*, keeping your weapons and armor upgraded is essential to tackling the increasing challenges you'll face. At the start, you'll mostly come across Common, or Level I, gear and enemies. But as you progress, you'll encounter Level II enemies, necessitating the upgrade to Fine, or Level II, gear. Here’s your guide to acquiring Tier II/Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed*.
How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor from Common (I) to Fine (II) in Avowed
In *Avowed*, you can obtain some weapons and armor directly as Fine Quality, but others will require upgrading to reach this level. Gear effectiveness is tracked through two metrics: Quality and Levels. Quality is indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman Numeral. Common gear is labeled with a green color and marked with "I," while Fine gear is blue and marked with "II." Between each Quality, there are three additional upgrade levels, from +1 to +3.
To upgrade your gear from Common (I) to Fine (II), you'll need to visit a Party Camp. Each camp features a workbench where you can upgrade your equipment. You must sequentially upgrade through levels +1, +2, and +3, each requiring specific materials that vary by gear type. Once you've reached the +3 upgrade, you can then advance to Fine (II), which will require Adra. This rare and valuable crystal can be obtained through Quest rewards, purchased from Merchants, or by breaking down Unique items.
Where to Find and Purchase Fine (II) Weapons and Armor in Avowed

While upgrading can be resource-intensive, there are other ways to acquire Fine (II) gear. Within the Living Lands, you might occasionally stumble upon Fine (II) items in Dawnshore, especially from defeated Level II enemies or Bounties. However, using Common gear against these tougher foes can be risky, so stock up on health potions to stay safe.
Additionally, Fine weapons and armor can be purchased from certain Merchants in Paradis. Access to Paradis becomes available to the Envoy shortly after defeating the Dreamscourge-infested bear boss in Dawnshore during the early stages of the Main Quest. In Paradis, near the Bounty Board, a pair of sister Merchants offer Fine gear. Merlylin specializes in magical items like grimoires and wands, while her blacksmith sister, at the adjacent stall, sells more traditional weapons and armor (as shown in the image above).
And that's how you can equip yourself with Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed*.
