Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Nintendo has issued a rare public statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images and videos are not official Nintendo materials, citing the company's absence from this year's Consumer Electronics Show. This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, represents an unusual level of engagement from Nintendo concerning product leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. The latest leak originates from accessory manufacturer Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.
Nintendo's response, provided to the Sankei Shimbun, directly addressed these leaks, labeling the Genki replica as "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, further reinforcing the unofficial nature of the showcased device.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the accuracy of the Genki replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most notable difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an extra button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, added that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will reportedly use magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and function as a mouse, corroborating information from other sources.
Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing
Nintendo previously stated that the Switch successor would be revealed during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of around $399.
