Stellar Blade, Shift Up's first non-gacha title in the US, boasts impressive reviews, praised for its challenging Soulslike combat, stunning visuals, captivating soundtrack, and distinctive character designs.
IGN's Mitchell Saltzman highlighted Stellar Blade's strengths and weaknesses in his review: "Stellar Blade is a gorgeous and well-crafted action game with impressive strengths and clear weaknesses. While the story and characters lack depth, and some RPG elements feel underdeveloped, the Sekiro-inspired combat system, formidable enemies, and rewarding exploration more than compensate." IGN awarded it a 7/10, though many, including myself, found it deserving of a higher score. It narrowly missed our Best PS5 Games of 2024 list due to its recent release.
Stellar Blade is graphically demanding. I recommend "Performance" mode for a smooth 60fps experience on standard PS5. PS5 Pro owners can enjoy the best of both worlds with "Enhanced" 4K mode while maintaining excellent framerates. The official PlayStation blog states that PS5 Pro users can experience "4K resolution at 50fps or more, smoother gameplay, and improved grain and detail in PSSR upscale mode. HFR (high framerate) at 80fps is also supported (requires a 120hz display)."
