Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a resounding new social media update, complete with captivating images that leave no room for speculation. This follows yesterday's indirect confirmation that the game is indeed in the works, despite the cancellation of another project in the series.
The developer announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG intended for mobile devices. However, they seized this opportunity to reassure fans that their dedication to Kingdom Hearts 4 remains unwavering. "We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the first of two posts declared, accompanied by a collage of screenshots showcasing characters, cinematic stills, combat scenes, platforming elements, and an imposing large enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post added. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This marks the first substantial update on Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease back in January. Despite an initial reveal in September 2022, accompanied by a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark a significant shift, steering the narrative towards its conclusion after 22 years and an impressive 18 games in the franchise.
Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel stemmed from their determination that it would be challenging to deliver a service that would satisfy players over an extended period.
