Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations
I’ve highlighted ***The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X***, and ***WITCH WATCH*** in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll. However, there are several other noteworthy series to consider from the list above.
***Devil May Cry*** is the latest animated adaptation of a video game from Netflix. With a trailer featuring Limp Bizkit and a new Evanescence track, the creators seem to understand the tone needed to resonate with their audience. Netflix has had mixed success with anime and anime-style game IPs, ranging from hits like *Castlevania*, *Arcane*, and *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners* to misses like *Tekken*: *Bloodline* and *Dragon’s Dogma*. Fortunately, the series is in good hands with creator Adi Shankar, who has experience with *Castlevania*, *Guardians of Justice*, and *Captain Laserhawk*, and Studio Mir, known for *Avatar: The Last Airbender* and *Korra*. Even if you're not a fan of the *Devil May Cry* games, fans of anime like *Trigun* should enjoy the adventures of the ultimate '00s edgelord, Dante.
In ***Moonrise***, the moon is on a quest for independence, a concept that the creators of 2021’s *Moonfall* might regret not exploring for a sequel. This ONA boasts talent from WIT Studio, known for *Attack On Titan* and *Vinland Saga*, character designs by Hiromu Arakawa of *Fullmetal Alchemist* fame, and direction by Masashi Koizuka, who worked on *Attack On Titan* Seasons 2 & 3. Despite limited information on the story, originally slated for 2024, the secrecy suggests something extraordinary is in store.
For those unfamiliar with ***YAIBA***, this samurai comedy series, created by Gosho Aoyama of *Case Closed* fame, follows Yaiba Kurogane as he battles an arch-nemesis with a magical katana and a demon army. The new adaptation, *Yaiba: Samurai Legends*, is the second anime adaptation following a year-long TV run in the early '90s, with Aoyama directly involved in production. Fans of *Detective Conan* and the humor of early *Dragon Ball* will appreciate this series, which also includes numerous Japanese historical cameos.
