Hazelight Games has announced that its latest co-op adventure game, Split Fiction, is continuing its impressive launch trajectory, having sold 2 million copies in just one week. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly solidified its place as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the enthusiastic support from both new and returning fans.
The studio previously shared that Split Fiction achieved 1 million sales within the first 48 hours of its release, showcasing the rapid interest in Mio and Zoe's sci-fi narrative. This means an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, demonstrating sustained consumer interest.
Given that Split Fiction is designed for co-op play, the actual number of players engaging with the game is likely much higher than the sales figures suggest. The game's Friend’s Pass feature further amplifies its reach, allowing one player to purchase the game and invite a friend to play at no extra cost. As Split Fiction continues to generate buzz on social media, it's expected that the sales numbers will continue to rise.
Hazelight's previous title, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar path to success, selling approximately 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021. By February 2023, sales had grown to 10 million copies, and by October 2024, the total reached 20 million copies, indicating the studio's consistent ability to captivate gamers.
In IGN's Split Fiction review, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," highlighting its innovative approach to storytelling and gameplay.
