Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes
Nintendo has announced the conclusion of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This announcement followed the September 16th Grand Festival, Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest. Nintendo released a commemorative video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut performance. "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us," Nintendo stated, "it's been a blast!"Launched two years ago on September 9th, Splatoon 3's shift to limited updates has fueled rumors of a sequel. Speculation about Splatoon 4 development has intensified.
Some players believe they've spotted potential easter eggs or hints within the Grand Festival event, suggesting a new city setting for a future installment. One fan commented on a metropolis-like location, suggesting, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others remain unconvinced, attributing the location to existing Splatsville assets.
While unconfirmed, rumors of Splatoon 4 development have circulated for months. Reports suggest Nintendo has begun work on a new Switch title. The Grand Festival, as the final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent Splatoon 4 announcement.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels. Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme could potentially foreshadow a similar concept for Splatoon 4. However, official confirmation from Nintendo is still awaited.
